A small mixed farm on the banks of the Fowey estuary

Milltown is on one of the highest navigable points of the Fowey river near the historic town of Lostwithiel. The land was part of a Saxon manor mentioned in the Doomsday book and lies on the Saints Way, a mediaeval pilgrim route crossing Cornwall from Padstow to Fowey. The area still has a small field pattern, lovely old Cornish hedges, wooded creeks, veteran trees and an abundance of wildlife.

Caring for the farm and the land

We are thrilled to be co-creators in this wonderful place. I have been exploring practices of deep listening to the land. Aligning with animist principles, it is wonderful experiencing the subtle energies at work in the landscape and extending connection with them is offering rewarding ways of cooperating with both the domestic and wider intelligences present.

This is informing the way we work in a subtle but fundamental way and is leading in directions we may not have otherwise imagined. Our herb nursery is a recent addition to the farm. It comprises many native plants which would have undoubtedly been worked with and relied on far more in the past. I have learnt a huge amount from growing and using them in the last few years and am looking forward to offering them for sale next year.

Other jobs keeping us busy include working with the chickens, geese and sheep, fencing fields, laying hedgerows, planting trees, repairing farm buildings and setting up the herb workshop and catering kitchen...
